White Bread Loaf

This is a very easy and successful soft crusted moist loaf

3/4 cup warm water
1 package active dry yeast
1 tsp salt
1-1/2 tbsp sugar
1 tbsp lard
1/2 cup milk
3 cups all-purpose flour

In a large bowl place the warm water and slowly add the dried yeast stirring all the time until the yeast has dissolved

Add salt, sugar, lard, and milk to bowl and stir well

Mix in 2 cups of the flour

If required,  add more flour, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough is form enough to handle

Turn the dough out onto a floured board and adding flour when necessary knead the dough until it is firm to the touch and smooth.  The longer you knead the dough the better the result.

When you are satisfied that you have got the dough to the right consistency cover with a clean cloth and leave the dough to rise until it has doubled in size.  This should take about an hour.

Turn out the dough and knead for a second time for about ten minutes

Preheat the oven to  375 degrees F

Place the dough into a greased loaf tin and once again cover and leave to rise for about 30 minutes

With a sharp knife score the dough on top in three places

Bake in the oven for about 45 minutes.

To test if the loaf is cooked turn out of the tin using a clean cloth so you don`t burn you hands and knock on the bottom it should sound hollow

When cooked cool on a cooling tray or clean cloth
