Cheese and Garlic Bread is perfect to serve with Chilli con Carne, soups such as Tomato Soup or at BBQs.  Quick and easy to make and tou can use the dough (before adding the cheese) as a tasty pizza base.


500g strong white bread flourCheese and Garlic Bread
7g sachet/1.5 tsp fast-action yeast
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp clear honey
2 garlic cloves , crushed
25g soft butter
100g mature cheddar , grated
handful thyme leaves chopped


Place the flour, yeast and salt into a large bowl

In a jug mix 300ml hand-hot water with the oil and honey then add to the bowl and make a soft dough

Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface and kneed for 5-1o minutes until smooth

Stretch the dough so it fits into a swiss roll tin

Mix the garlic with the butter, then dot over the dough.

Top with the cheese and sprinkle over the chopped thyme.

Cover the bread with a clean, dry tea towel, then leave in a warm place to rise for 40 mins.

Heat oven to 200C/fan 180C/gas 6.

Remove tea towel, then bake the bread for 30 mins until golden and risen.

Leave to cool for 10 mins, then cut and serve as you wish.
